Khan is already capable of defeating Floyd

De La Hoya, now Khan's promoter and boss of Golden Boy, is convinced that Khan is already capable of defeating Floyd. There are many names linked with Amir Khan for potential big fights in the next year. What began as a celebration of boxing's return to Washington, including a pep talk by Mayor Vincent Gray, turned into a birthday bash for the visiting British fighter, Amir Khan.

But the confident 25-year-old British boxer is not looking past his opponent Saturday night, Washington DC's Lamont Peterson, who brings a 29-1-1 record into the ring.

De La Hoya, Khan's promoter in the United States, reckons the showdown can happen if Mayweather's talks aimed at getting Manny. On Nov. 26, featherweight Gary Russell Jr., arguably the best prospect Washington, DC, has produced in many years, scored a devastating first-round knockout against Heriberto Ruiz on HBO.

Two different men from differing paths will step into the ring in Washington DC when IBF/WBA champ Amir Khan 26-1 (18 KO) crosses the pond to defend his belts against Lamont Peterson 29-1-1 (15 KO). OSCAR DE LA HOYA has revealed he is ready to try to make Amir Khan's dream fight against Floyd Mayweather come true next May.

Ricky Hatton, David Haye, Lennox Lewis and Joe Calzaghe fell short in their attempts to be. Khan faces Lamont Peterson in Washington on Saturday night looking to defend his WBA and IBF world. AMIR KHAN has given himself three years to achieve his goal of becoming Britain's first world pound-for-pound king.

DAVID HAYE reckons fellow Brit Amir Khan is the only man in the world who can end Floyd Mayweather's 42-fight unbeaten run. Oscar de la Hoya believes Amir Khan will follow in his footsteps as the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

AMIR KHAN has abandoned his dream of unifying the light-welterweight division — to become the first Brit to be seen as the world's best pound-for-pound fighter. Khan wants to succeed where Ricky Hatton failed.

Britain's Amir Khan, a talented world boxing champion on an eight-fight win streak, could also play an important role in combating anti-Muslim prejudice, according to his US promoter
